Mississippi University for Women’s Department of Music hosted the National Association of Composers, USA (NACUSA) Mid-South Chapter’s concert in the University’s Connie Sills Kossen Auditorium on Saturday, April 7th, 2018.
Dr. Alan Goldspiel, classical guitarist, as well as performers Valentin Bogdan, and Joe L. Alexander all performed and had their music presented at the well-received event. Other composers to have their compositions performed were David R. Peoples, Biraj Adhikari, Richard Montalto, and Mark Prince Lee.
Goldspiel played three preludes from his Five Preludes (2012). Later in the concert, Goldspiel returned to the stage to perform Seasons Change and With Hope from Five Meditations (2005).
The Five Preludes were inspired by and written in homage to Heitor Villa-Lobos and his music. Each one takes some essence of the great Brazilian composer’s work and uses it as the basis for the composition. The preludes complete the set of four five-movement works for solo guitar begun in 2005 (Five Meditations (2005), then Nature Sketches (2007) and Tale of the Bird Mound (2007)).
