Dr. Alan Goldspiel Awarded 2018 NAMM Foundation/CMS GenNext Fellow Grant

On May 7th, 2018, Dr. Alan Goldspiel was awarded The NAMM Foundation-College Music Society Grant. The grant designates Goldspiel as a “2018 NAMM Foundation/CMS GenNext Fellow. Goldspiel was selected as one of nine music faculty members nationwide chosen to participate in the CMS-NAMM Summer Fellows Program for Music Faculty.

The program is designed to introduce music faculty to professions in the music industry, giving them background to better prepare students for careers as 21st-century musicians. The NAMM Foundation College Music Society Fellows Award seeks to support individuals who exhibit commitment and aptitude for developing curricula related to business leadership and innovation in the music products industry.

This award assists Dr. Goldspiel with travel expenses to attend Summer NAMM in Nashville, Tennessee on June 28-30 as part of the GenNext college music program. The NAMM-CMS Summer Fellows will gain an insider’s perspective of the music products industry through a mix of scheduled workshops and free time to explore the trade show floor.

In his letter to the award committee, Goldspiel stated, “I am very interested in learning much more about the music industry as it applies to my professional work and, perhaps more importantly, how I might leverage that knowledge in support of my students”. He feels confident that this opportunity, “will provide a more structured landscape of the ever-changing music business industry and bring resources that I will require. I am eager and excited to learn.”
