The honor was bestowed upon Dr. Goldspiel by the Mu Eta Chapter in a brief ceremony by members of Sigma Alpha Iota (SAI) at the University of Montevallo. In the ceremony, Dr. Goldspiel was given a rose and the traditional information offered to inductees of the SAI Fraternity.

The history of SAI dates to 1903 when it was organized “to form chapters of music students and alumnae who have a sincere interest in music and uphold the highest standards of music; to further the development of music in America and throughout the world.”

The SAI website states that “Sigma Alpha Iota is an organization which promotes interaction among those who share a commitment to music. Members of SAI are active in all areas of music and campus life, working closely with faculty, administration, and campus groups. Alumnae members are teachers, performers, professionals, and patrons of local and national arts organizations. In addition to personal encouragement and support, members may receive scholarships, grants, and awards in many areas of music-related study. Sigma Alpha Iota has long been recognized as a leader in the field of music.”

The Mu Eta Chapter wanted to recognize Dr. Goldspiel’s steadfast support of our organization and his many accomplishments in teaching and music,” said Dr. Lori Ardovino, faculty advisor.
