On Friday, June 7th, 2019 The Magic Shtetl Klezmer Band was honored to be part of the 20th Anniversary celebration for Cantor Jessica Roskin. Cantor Roskin has been with Temple Emanu-El since 1999.

The celebration began with a Shabbat Service and was followed up by a celebratory dinner with the congregation while the Magic Shtetl Klezmer Band provided festive accompaniment.

Members of the band are, musical director, Alan Goldspiel (Guitar), Robert Janssen (Clarinet), and Ron Alexander (Bass).

The Magic Shtetl Klezmer Band’s repertoire includes many popular Klezmer tunes such as Der Heyser Bulgar and Chusn Khale Mazeltov along with more traditional Klezmer dances and Jewish songs.

When asked about the event, Goldspiel stated: “We were thrilled to be included for such a special celebration. We have great admiration for the work and talents of Cantor Roskin!”

The Magic Shtetl Klezmer Band was formed by Goldspiel in 2010 to celebrate the opening of the art exhibit Darkness Into Light sponsored by the Birmingham Holocaust Education Center and has varying members depending on how large or small a band is required. The band has performed throughout central Alabama and is available for events both public and private.
